The famous artist known as James Tissot
(original name: Jacques Joseph Tissot, born on October 15, 1836 in Nantes, died on August 8, 1902 in Buillon) was a French painter and illustrator. Tissot, who was mainly known for his portraits in Victorian England, applied himself to religious subjects in his late work, parts of which can be bought here. All gravure printings (copper engravings and coloured ones) are printed on large vellum paper and provide finely wrought features, raisins and J. James Tissot’s initials.
Each and every one of Tissot’s paintings shows the ageless topic of the Bible in such an expressive way that only a fistful of artists can compare. To learn more about his life, click here.
Those who cannot or do not want to afford an original painting may like the opportunity to buy a reprint.
